Since Bahçeşehir Cyprus University is an English medium educational institution, all undergraduate students are required to complete the English Preparatory Program successfully. Students who have received a satisfactory score from one of the exams that is recognized by Bahçeşehir Cyprus University are exempt from the English Preparatory Program.

Students who achieve B2 CEFR level in the written placement test will be eligible to take the BAU Cyprus English Proficiency Exam (Speaking &Writing). In order to be exempt from the English Preparatory Program, students are required to achieve a minimum of B2 or higher level from the Speaking and the Writing examinations.

ENGLISH PLACEMENT EXAM –Oxford Placement Test

Bahçeşehir University 2021-2022 Academic Year English Placement Exam will take place  online  on October 1, 2021, Friday between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 a.m. for newly registered Turkish students and will be repeated on October 7, 2021, Monday between 11:00 a.m. and 12.00 a.m. for international students in  LAB A301.

Exam format: 

The Oxford Placement Test has two sections – Use of English and Listening.

The Use of English section assesses students’ knowledge of grammatical form and vocabulary.

The Listening section assesses students’ general listening ability.

Both sections test how well students understand the meaning of what is being communicated, which is an excellent indicator of general language ability.

Exam duration: The exam will last 60 minutes. Your time starts when you start the exam and finishes 60 minutes later.

Exam venue: The English Placement Exam will be conducted online at BAU Cyprus Alayköy Campus. Room: A301

Writing Exam Format

120-180 word B2 level Writing Task

Students who achieve minimum B2 or higher CEFR level in the Oxford Placement Test will become eligible to attend BAU Cyprus English Proficiency Exam (Speaking &Writing) which will be conducted ON-CAMPUS (Face-to-face) on October 4 Monday for Turkish students and on October 11 Monday for International students between 10:00 a.m. and 15:00 p.m. The exam will be administered at Bahçeşehir Cyprus University Campus located in Alayköy.  Speaking exam schedule will be announced on the prep school website a day before the speaking exam day.

 

Students who achieve less than B2 or higher CEFR level in the BAU Cyprus Placement Exam (Oxford Placement Test) are placed in an appropriate level in the English Preparatory Program based on the results of their English Placement Exam. Classes start for English Preparatory Program students on October 12, 2021, Tuesday. Your placement exam results will be sent to you via email right after the examination.

 

Exam Rules and Regulations

Before, during and after your exam

Before your exam

  • Check your test invitation letter* carefully and ensure you know the location of the venue/class/lab etc.
  • * Your test invitation letter will be given to you right after you complete your registration process at the Students Affairs Office.
  • To get registered for the English Placement Test, a form will be filled at the Student Affairs Office and you will be sent a username and password via email after the registration.
  • Make sure you receive your Oxford Placement Test username and password before the test.
  • Plan your route and ensure you allow enough time for travel.
  • Arrive 15 minutes before the start of the exam – we recommend 25 minutes for off-site venues
  • Make sure you bring your own earphones with 3.5mm Jack. Students without earphones CAN’T take the examination.
  • Remember to visit the toilet before the start of the exam.
  • Make sure you have you ID card with you.
  • Wearing masks are compulsory. Make sure you wear your masks at all times when you are inside the university building.
  • You can bring a clear unlabelled bottle of water with you. If you bring anything else it will be taken from you and returned at the end of the exam
  • Leave all personal belongings, including coats, hats and scarves, in the designated area
  • Switch off your mobile phone and any electronic devices

During your exam

You will be admitted to the venue by an invigilator shortly before your exam is due to start. Once admitted the Examination Regulations apply. Sit at a desk allocated to your exam and listen carefully to the instructions given by the invigilator. It is normal for Invigilators to move around the venue. They may also inspect any equipment / dictionaries / smartphones, smart watches which are on your desk.

  • Duration:  The exam is 60 minutes and you are not allowed to leave the examination room during this time.
  • Announcements towards the end of exams.For all examinations there will only be one announcement 15 minutes before the end of the exam to let you know how much time is left.

After your exam

You must remain seated and silent at your desk until your invigilator tell you that you may leave the classroom. Do not leave until instructed to do so. Collect your belongings. Lost items will be taken daily to main reception. Leave the venue quietly as there may be exams still taking place in adjacent venues.
